Week 9

I am in pure disbelief that it is already week 9 of spring quarter. I feel like it was just yesterday that we started this course with Kate and I remember being so excited that this course was going to be different from your standard english course, and now it is almost over. I can only speak for myself in saying this but I have really enjoyed this class and I feel like my writing skills have truly improved. Typically by the end of a quarter I am jumping for joy knowing that a class is coming to a close but with this class, that is not the case. I have quite a few other english courses to take for my education major concentrated in english and I am dreading the fact that those other classes will be set up and constructed differently than this one. I hope that everyone else feels as though they got as much out of this class as I have, and good luck to everyone with compostition 4, I bet they are going to be awesome.

  1. I completely agree with you. When I signed up for this class i was thinking great, we are going to be reading novels and wirting papers on them but after the first day of class and hearing Kate's description of the course and the readings I was very excited to dive into the material of the course. This is not normally the case especially with an English class. The structure of the class was great and the different compositions were a great way to test different skills we possess or learned in this class.

  2. I agree with you too. This class was by far my favorite since I've been in college. It's right up there with beginners volleyball and my English 110 class from freshman year. Volleyball was obviously fun because all we did was play volleyball and my English 110 teacher was just as cool as Kate. The only difference between the English classes is that the content of the course for 110 pretty much sucked yet somehow my teacher made me enjoy it. I'm a big fan of creative writing and this course offers. I too am going to miss this class and feel that it has made me a better writer.

  3. The quote Kate put into the policies, “I cannot teach anybody anything. I can only make them think.", is probably the best thing I've learned in this class and it's so true in comparison to the teaching strategy in this class. I think by far this will be my favorite class throughout my career at Ohio State. I'm not sure from what exactly though I've learned so much in this class I couldn't even begin to recall. The rhetorical skills I've learned have improved my overall literacy in English and that to me would be the main point in any English class.

  4. I couldn't agree more. Kate made this class amazing. now i am thinking about taking her summer course just so i can have another one of her classes. The thing is even though this class was so fun i still have learned so much. I love it!
