Point of View
Working on my memoir, I have found myself interviewing the people who were also involved in my experience (breaking my leg) in order to fill in forgotten details and get their point of view on the subject. This has been extremely important because I received a wicked concussion during the experience and was a little hazy in a few instances. Also, this allows me to share other peoples emotions and get into their heads in a kind of way in my memoir, adding another dimension. I was wondering if any of you guys are also doing this, or strictly sticking to your point of view and thoughts. Adding this aspect of other people's thoughts, in my opinion, can make the story more interesting and add to ethos by fairly representing others. I say fairly because doing so in biased manner can have the exact opposite effect. To what extent are you guys including others views?

Its funny you say that because I am actually including 3 different views in my memoir. It being mostly about my brother and I's relationship and how Fazio has affected it, not only is it just me and Fazio's perspective on the story but Seth has also given us his input on the story. Even though it is very similar to my own due to the fact that we went through the same experience, it is still helpful to have that same view point through the eyes of someone else. It just helps confirm and support the message we are trying to send.
ReplyDeleteI think it was a great idea to get their point of view. I feel like it will only help you in your memoir because there is always something that someone else thought of that you didn't.
ReplyDeleteI did this as well with my memoir. I went on my trip to Europe with 35 other kids, many of my close friends and I asked quite a few of them about their memories of our trip and what stood out to them. I think that this is important in engaging your target audience.
