Enjoying Persepolis
Like we discussed in class it seems somewhat difficult to enjoy reading Persepolis. Besides the lack of uniqueness to characters its difficult to understand the situation of the fighting going on in Iran. I think this is primarily due to the fact that we are not taught much about these conflicts, whereas we learn and have read many books about the Holocaust, which made Maus easier to read. It feels like there is just more on an emphasis on her growing up rather than the actual conflicts considering most of the second volume deals with her living in Europe. I do though, enjoy how the book seems to grow and mature as the it progresses. I've noticed as I keep reading some images seem less childish and the language used has indeed matured. Overall though as interesting as this books is I have got to agree with the majority of people and say i enjoyed Maus alot more, but wonder if I read Persepolis first, would the situation be reversed.

i agree, i think that if the order in which we read the books would have been reversed i would have liked maus even more after getting through this. im excited, however, to see the movie. my girlfriend watched it in a class in high school and said it was kind of cool.
ReplyDeleteI agree as well. I feel like the characters are hard to get attached to, and the story is less interesting. I think that if the order been reversed, I would've still enjoyed Maus more.
