Life experience changes your personality
Artie’s father is quite a character. I don’t understand how he could throw away the memories of his true love. I know most of the things written in her diary were not pleasant, but with the bad it got better. They survived because of their love for one another. Maybe he just wanted to move on with his life, but with a love like that I don’t think you should ever let it go. Not only did his love for her keep him alive, but his ability to do various jobs, such as in a tin shop, shoe shop, and also doing black work. Since, being a “do it all” kind of guy and a huge drive to keep learning new things to survive made him into the man he is today. Notice even when he is old, he will not pay to get things fixed or done for him. Also, he is what you would call a penny pincher, saves everything because maybe in his eyes you never know when a holocaust will come again. Deep inside he might still be afraid, so he would like to be prepared if it were to happen again.
