Comp 4 dilemma

While I was thinking about how I could incorporate photos or items that I have into my Composition 4, I was having a bit of trouble. My graphic memoir is going to be about an event that I encountered as a nine year old, which means that I can't really stage any shots with myself. It doesn't help that most of comic will be my younger self along with my friends venturing inside an abandoned house; this is an even bigger obstacle for staging shots. So I've decided to go with primarily hand drawings even though I'm not all the confident in my artistic skills. Hopefully a simplistic style will complement well with my abilities, but I would have liked to put some photos in my composition. I am probably going to end up just putting some photograph of myself at that age in the comic at the beginning or end, but I wish there was something else that I could add.

  1. I also had that same dilemma. I have pictures to put in the comic but then again they don't really go along with the story. I think i'm just going to draw pictures as well. If you want to incorporate a picture of yourself you should try scanning it onto a computer and doing a little photo shopping with it. Or maybe cut your head out of a few pictures and draw the body, that way you can have a picture of yourself in every frame.

  2. i have the same dilemma. in both of our cases though i think it will be easier to just draw them because our teacher said she wont grade us on our artistic ability but on the other hand i feel that mine is so bad that it will make my entire memoir look like crap. what do you think?

  3. Although you are feeling like the simplicity of drawing stick figures will take away from your graphic memoir, I think that it will actually really enhance it. You said that your memoir is about a story from when you were 9 years old and having very simple images could make it seem like you are telling this story as the 9 year old boy who was experiencing this event first hand. Have you considered telling this story as if the audience is looking through your eyes when you were 9? If so, the simple pictures( and I am not necessarily saying that your drawing looks like a 9 year olds) could really enhance your story.
