Movie Previews

I wanted to talk more about how we touched on the topic of American movie trailers. I know im not the only one when i say I've been upset to go to a movie I have been looking forward to because of previews and end up disappointed. It seems as though this trend follows not just movie but all kinds of commercials. How many times have you seem some fast food commercial about some new product that looks amazing but once you get it you couldn't be more disappointed. I believe though we hold some of the blame for commercials at least like the ones concerning movies. We as society are always looking for action, excitement, and little story and the commercial industry takes advantage of this.

  1. Along with this I would like to add that a lot of times the commercial or trailer for a movie reveals all of the funny parts or all the interesting parts which also is a big disappointment when watching the movie. And as far as a food product or household product I feel that commercials almost false advertise a product. We all know hte let down of a food product not looking near as good as it did on the commercial or a detergent not removing the stains as well as the commercial displays. Yes, all these methods are good advertisement strategies to get a consumer interested but is it fair to the consumer?

  2. Actually most of the food seen on television, more specifically in ads, is not real food. The whole goal is to sell you on a food you probably don't even want, but yet it always seems to work. I feel like if they made commercials with the way foods actually looked, most of us would be eating at home a hell of a lot more.

  3. I have had a personal experience with this in terms of food products/ads on TV. I am a die hard pizza lover, so I get it delivered quite often. I saw a commercial for Pizza Hut's $10 any size, any topping, any crust deal so I called and ordered a large pepperoni with stuffed crust and the woman on the other line said, "stuffed crust is an extra dollar" even though the commercial said "any crust"?? Needless to say I got a little upset with her and ended up not ordering anything but it is stuff like this that makes me so angry with commercials! Also, with movie trailers, I feel like in the trailer they cut/paste/rearrange scenes in the movie to make it look like a completely different situation than what actually goes on in the movie, I hate that too!

  4. I feel like the commercial industry has just figured out how to manipulate us. Americans are predictable in what they want, and the marketing world knows how to work their ads in order to get us to believe what they want. One of my biggest pet peeves is going to a comedy movie and then realizing that every single funny scene from the movie was in the preview.

  5. I mean, if I were a commmercial maker I would probably do the same thing, because it all comes down to one thing... money. The best way to make money is to show the best/most interesting stuff in the commercial so consumers go out and watch the movie. I don't quite agree with their approach, but that is how I feel about this, it's just people trying to make money.

  6. I agree that the people who create these sort of advertisements are just out to make money. They know what works and what makes people think they have to have something and they use it against them. I don't really think you can blame them because this is how tings get done in every aspect of life. I have something you want or need and I'm going to make you realize it. They use whatever means to get you to come see their movie, buy their product, or agree with their pitch. We are all guilty of this at one time or another, but unlike these industries we don't make billions of dollars when someone gives in to what we want.
