Final Assignment

Going in to composition 4 I remember thinking, "How the hell am I going to stretch this event out into a 5-10 page memoir?!" I was worried that I'd fill up 2, maybe 3 pages max, and my entire story would be done. But now that we're actually working on it, I'm finding that I easily filled up 7 pages of comics. But one thing that frustrates me is the photo effects available. I'm more of a traditional comic person. I like the illustrated images over the actual photos. Unfortunately, I'm far from an artist, but I have a ton of pictures of my event. I try to edit the photos to make them look like drawings, but they never look like I want them to. I'm afraid that this will take away from the comic aspect of the memoir and make it boring. Thoughts?

  1. Yea I was also worried about not having enough material for our final composition, but after Thursday's class I am no longer worried about not having enough material, but worried that I have too much material. I have already completed 6 pages just during the first day.

  2. Stacy I am having the same problem. Switching all the photos over to colored pencils or another effect seems to sort of dull them. I am doing my memoir on a Mexico trip and the pictures are gorgeous, but as I shrink them down and alter them I think they lose some of their aesthetic appeal. I may try to "jazz it up" if you will with breaking some frames and not sticking with the constant block by block style. I also am trying to change up the style with a few full page pictures.

  3. I am having the same problem also. I don't want to use a lot of photo effects because I feel it takes away from the actual pictures and there are some photos that, I think, just wouldn't look good if comic effects were added to them. So, right now, I'm just adding effects to the photos that, I feel, need them instead of all of them. But by doing that to the same type of pictures on each page, it still looks consistent.

  4. At first I as well thought that I was going to have trouble getting 5-10 pages but after working on my memoir in class I feel like I defintely have more than enough material to create ten pages quite easily.

  5. I was seaching one day in class for things that would help me with this memoir and I found a bunch of sites that you can just up load your picture and it makes it into a comic. Search for something like " changing pictures into comics" L am sure that you will find something. I hope this was helpful.
