Comp 2 - Walking the Streets

I am going to be doing my composition 2 paper on Walking the Streets, Crumb. I have read a few of the short comics and this its the only one that really speaks to me. I think it sends a really good message. He talks about how depressing his life was and about many of the factors in his life that contributed to his depression. He uses a metaphor, "walking the streets," to symbolize his depressing life. He ends the short comic with the quote "He's not walkin' the streets no more!" after he got everything he thought he ever wanted in life. From this I gather that the moral of the story is that life is hard at times and but in the end the only thing that really matters is how you lived it. You can either go through life being depressed and thinking your worthless or you can make the most of your life and do the best you can to live it happily. Either way the end will come and you will have either gotten everything you wanted or you won't. In Crumbs case, he did if I were him and I looked back at the way I lived my life I would not be proud. When the end has come for me, no matter if its the end I wanted or not, when I look back at the way I lived my life I want to be able to say that I wouldn't have changed anything and that I did everything I could to live my life to the fullest. I think that is the message Crumb is trying to get across in his comic. What do you think?

  1. I have to agree with this. I have always felt when life comes to an end, what defines a successful life is not one consisting of being rich or famous but rather one you can look back on with content. You should do something to benefit others and not just look to benefit yourself in life.

  2. This is a very profound underlying metaphor presented by Crumb that I feel everyone should follow in his or her life. Live your life to the fullest each day and have no regrets. The last thing you want to do is look back and wish you would have done something you hadn't or wish you would have one something differently. Life is short and one should take advantage of every opportunity they are presented with (within in parameters) because you ever know what can come from it.
