A New Light

Most interesting to me with Maus and reading McCloud's understanding comics along with it is that comics are not once what I thought they were. Comics reach so far beyond their stereotype of superheros and cartoons. There is so much more. It's all about how you tell your story, the author's perspective, how characters are represented, what goes on between the panels, parts the author is leaving for you to infer between the gutters. There are so many things to consider when reading a comic which I would venture to say that the majority of people would never think about. For instance, when I would tell people about our course subject I got the same response everytime..."Your english class is about comics?!" I can say I would have said the same thing before entering this class, but it is so interesting to me to learn about the things which are not thought of in everyday life or by everyone. When i first began the readings for class I was a completely different audience member than I am now. I think I am finally reading how the author intended us to
