kinda cool kinda not

so i think Persepolis is kind of cool kind of not. one thing i do like is how Satrapi portrays herself as a child living through the revolution rather than an adult looking back on it. more often than not, children are viewed as some of the most innocent beings on earth because they have not yet been corrupted by outside forces and they haven't developed any sort of political biasness other than what they have picked up from their parents. most of the time as we see in the book they don't really understand whats going on anyway.
what is neat is that while choosing to write this from a child's perspective it allowed her in an unbiased way to tell both sides of the story ( or atleast with a child's understanding).
one aspect i hate is how the pictures are drawn going from the detailed drawings of Maus to the plainness of these drawing was kind of disappointing and not anywhere near as appealing as Maus was.

  1. I liked that about Persepolis too. I think It's really interesting and different to retell your childhood story from the perspective of yourself as a child. I think the book is written really well and I like how she proposes so many questions due to the fact that she doesn't understand anything that is going on as a child. It really helps the reader relive the life she had and puts them on the same level as her. And I do agree, the pictures are kind of lame but they are simple and in a complex story like this one, I think simple pictures kind of cancel out and give the memoir balance.
