Comics and the holocaust

I feel that the most fascinating aspect of Maus is the idea that a comic was able to capture and interpret something as complex and offensive as the holocaust. It was really interesting to look at the differences between the original version of Maus and the revised version which we are reading. I feel like the revised version does a better job of relating with the readers because the comic is less detailed and the reader can bettter relate to the characters. I feel like Spiegelman is a very gifter writer and artist because of his ability to capture this horrific event and he does so in a unique way that breaks the barrier of awkardness about the topic by using mice and cats to represent the jewish people and the germans. It is a unique book because the illustrations probably tell more of the story then the words actually do which makes this an important work of literature.
